“I want to find a therapist who has experienced panic attacks and knows first hand what they are! I want a therapist who understands.
This is the most common request I hear,” says recovered therapist Cynthia Ashley.

This practice limits itself to specializing in the counseling of panic disorder,  agoraphobia, phobias and issues related to these disorders.  Relaxation sessions, however, are available for the general public.

  • You may contact me for telephone counseling, live video internet sessions, email questions, chat therapy, or a calming relaxation session.

  • Every effort is made to protect confidentiality.  Internet sessions are conducted through a “secure server.” However, please read our disclaimer. Click here for the disclaimer info.

  • Therapy provided consists of  cognitive, behavioral, in-vivo desensitization and insight oriented modalities.

  • All therapy sessions are 60 minutes.  Relaxation sessions are 30 minutes.

Since my schedule allows for only a specific number of client hours weekly, the number of individuals I can directly work with is limited.  Therefore,  a “free consultation” of 10 to 15 minutes ( pre screening evaluations) will be conducted prior to accepting your case. This “free consultation” will help both of us determine whether I am the right therapist for you and whether your case is appropriate for me.  Once that determination is made, counseling sessions will be set up.

(Pre-screening for relaxation sessions is not necessary.)

  • Counseling is individually tailored to fit the needs of the individual.  Depending on your needs, sessions may be 60 minutes once a week or 60 minutes every two weeks.  Sessions will taper as one begins to demonstrate a higher degree of functioning.

Counseling Can Help

  • Clients will learn skills and techniques to control panic attacks. How can one be expected to confront an avoided situation if one has never been taught how to cope with the fear?

  • “What If” you could unlearn all that negative, catastrophic thinking?  Stop being plagued by “what-if thinking. Cognitive therapy teaches one how.

  • Suppose one discovered that options and choices were available when feelings of helplessness, being trapped, limited or restricted occur? Counseling can help one to feel empowered!

Imagine a life where you were the boss instead of fear!

  • Can you imagine learning how to say no, when you really do mean “no?’ Find the joy in knowing that you really do have rights! Learn how to exercise them.

  • Imagine learning to accept all feelings within you as part of yourself.  Imagine how good that would feel to allow all that you are (thoughts and feelings) to exist without trying to squelch those that are uncomfortable.
  • Suppose you could learn to direct your mind where you wanted it, instead of your mind taking you where IT wants to go?

  • What if you could become less concerned about what other people think of you? Wouldn’t life be less fearful?

  • Counseling can help you to take your life back.  You CAN learn to grow healthy again.  There IS hope.  You CAN get better.  Start right where you are and make that call today.

Let me help you reclaim your life and lead you away from fear.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

l If I have never been diagnosed, can I take a short quiz to find out if I may be suffering with panic disorder, agoraphobia or a phobia?

Yes. You may Click Here to view a list of symptoms for each.

l May I take medication and work with Cynthia by telephone or Internet?

Yes. You may be on prescribed medication and receive my help. Your medication must be prescribed and monitored by your local physician or psychiatrist. I cannot advise you on medication. Our work together is not based in medication. You will learn skills, techniques to manage anxiety, how to restructure negative thinking, identify and accept unwanted feelings; identify unhealthy patterns and behaviors; relearn new coping styles to assist you on your road to recovery, etc. When a physician feels you are a candidate for psychopharmacological treatment, then medication prescribed by your M.D. can be useful when used in conjunction.

l May I be in therapy with another therapist and still work with Cynthia by telephone or Internet?

Yes, You may be in therapy with a local therapist in your area and include sessions with me at the same time. If you are currently seeing a professional and would like to use my help as an adjunctive treatment source, you may let your current therapist know that you would like to combine the two sources of care, Often, I will work conjunctively, offering specialized help in the area of panic and agoraphobia. In this manner, your current therapist will work on deeper issues with you while I will cover the anxiety attacks and avoidance behaviors. When our work together is finished, you will remain with your current therapist to continue the work you started there. It is important that you are honest in your dealings with this matter. Your therapist may call me to consult.

You must have signed a "Release of Information" form for me to speak with your therapist regarding your case.

If you have not signed a release form, no information or acknowledgment of your name will be given.
