Cynthia has been a dedicated social worker since 1977. She began her career working in the field of gerontology. In 1982, she was licensed as a Licensed Certified Social Worker. Upon recovering from her own experience with panic and agoraphobia in 1985, she devoted her life’s work and expertise, thereafter, to specializing in the counseling of anxiety disorders. Working in the pioneering stages of this field, Cynthia was the first therapist in her area to offer a specialty practice in out-of-the-office (in-vivo) desensitization of phobias. She trained in working with phobias and anxiety under the paid supervision of Board Certified psychiatrists and LICSW’s. She also worked closely for many years with a licensed psychologist who specialized in treating panic disorder, agoraphobia and phobias. Among the many continuing educational workshops she attended, she includes MAP Anxiety workshop under David Barlow, Ph.D. and Michele Craske, Ph.D. in Albany, N.Y. She was a charter member of the Phobia Society of America; now known as the Anxiety Disorders Association of America. Cynthia worked several years as the Vice President of the Western Massachusetts Phobia Society where she was instrumental in setting up support groups, educational workshops and outreach for panic disorder, agoraphobia and phobias throughout her state area. She promoted self-help and education for the phobic population, was a co-editor and featured writer for a self-help monthly newsletter. Throughout her career, Cynthia was a guest speaker on many local radio and television talk shows, as well as for area groups. v v v She
